This is letter to the editor the Tuscaloosa News which, once again, was printed long after it was sent. It was sent twice around the middle of May 2002.
I would like to address the ridicule of Chief Justice Roy Moore. He is a man of esteemed reputation, yet he has the audacity to form opinions of his own. I find it appalling that he disregards the feelings of the media, the Democratic Party, and the liberal public at large. Our nation’s Supreme Court may display a depiction resembling the Ten Commandments, but that doesn’t mean our State’s Supreme Court can. And all the while Mr. Moore insists his personal life will not affect his professional performance. Oh, never mind about that (my apologies, Mr. Clinton).
Regarding sexual deviance, anyone opposed must be labeled as a hate mongering, unsophisticated, intolerant, phobic bigot. You can throw in racist and sexist, too; these tactics are always successful. In the spirit of Hitler’s “thought control” ignore their claims to uphold family values and just accuse them of being intolerant. We must label any opposition as religious opinion, and change the First Amendment to read "freedom FROM religion", so as to rid society of ALL religious expression. Oh, this is already in progress.
To help this unbiased cause of the American people, we must praise social progress. Thanks to the activist Supreme Court for recently lifting the ban on so called “virtual” child pornography. We must especially thank the pornography industry for its moral contribution to society, making lust artistic and deviance sophisticated.
Memo to the Thought Police: soon your holy quest (defending freedom) will make pedophilia legal (thanks to Judith Levine), limitations on killing "undesirables" will be lifted, and Judaism, Christianity and private ownership of guns will be outlawed. If your goal is to make America the Fourth Reich, the task is well under way.
